Canada’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 21.9% in August 2022

Canada’s retail industry registered a 21.9% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 8.94% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 9.98% share in August 2022, recording a decrease of 1.43% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in August 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 57.38% in August 2022, registering a 74.82% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 15.57% share, an increase of 11.76% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 11.48%, registering a 62.16% decline from July 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 10.66%, down 31.58% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 73.21% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Amazon posted 30 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 89.01% over the previous month, followed by Loblaw Companies with 17 jobs and a 21.43% growth. Canadian Tire with 15 IT jobs and Lululemon Athletica with 14 jobs, recorded a 6.25% decline and a 22.22% decrease, respectively, while Affirm Holdings recorded a flat growth with 10 job postings during August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.38%, down by 54.25% from July 2022. Mid Level positions with a 22.95% share, registered a decline of 57.58% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 19.67% share, down 82.73% over July 2022.
