Canada’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 3.4% in July 2022

Canada’s retail industry registered a 3.4% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.13% in July 2022 when compared with June 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 12.1% share in July 2022, recording an increase of 1.48% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.44% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in July 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 77.65% in July 2022, registering a 19.65% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 10.34% share, a decrease of 28.85% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 5.31%, registering a 26.67% rise from June 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 4.75%, down 22.73% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 18.52% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Amazon posted 273 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 20.64% over the previous month, followed by Lululemon Athletica with 18 jobs and an 80% growth. Canadian Tire with 16 IT jobs and Loblaw Companies with 14 jobs, recorded a 52.94% decline and a 16.67% growth, respectively, while eBay recorded an increase of 80% with 9 job postings during July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 42.74%, down by 32.6% from June 2022. Entry Level positions with a 38.83% share, registered a decline of 17.26% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 18.44% share, up 32% over June 2022.
