Canada’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 3.9% in October 2021

Canada’s retail industry registered a 3.9% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 3.18% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.92% share in October 2021, recording an increase of 0.28% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.63% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 81.85% in October 2021, registering a 39.29% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer Support Specialists claimed a 5.93% share, an increase of 77.78% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 4.44%, registering a 57.14% decline from September 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 4.44%, flat growth over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 41.33% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Amazon posted 168 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 49.7% over the previous month, followed by Loblaw Companies with 19 jobs and a 20.83% drop. Canadian Tire with 18 IT jobs and Lululemon Athletica with 14 jobs, recorded a 30.77% decline and a 75% growth, respectively, while Metro recorded a flat growth with 11 job postings during October 2021.

Entry Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Entry Level jobs held a share of 47.04%, down by 35.86% from September 2021. Junior Level positions with a 40% share, registered a decline of 36.09% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 12.96% share, down 39.66% over September 2021.
