Canada’s retail industry registered a 4.5% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 19.04% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 10.82% share in December 2021, recording an increase of 1.5% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.71% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in December 2021.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 82.06% in December 2021, registering a 30.25% decline over the previous month.
2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 8.53% share, an increase of 70.59% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 5.29%, registering a 14.29% decline from November 2021.
4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 2.35%, down 11.11% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 31.15% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during December 2021 over November 2021.
Amazon posted 239 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 30.32% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 20 jobs and a 13.04% drop. Lululemon Athletica with 13 IT jobs and Loblaw Companies with 12 jobs, recorded a 225% growth and a 60% decrease, respectively, while Metro recorded a decline of 62.96% with 10 job postings during December 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 45.59%, down by 17.99% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 39.41% share, registered a decline of 40.97% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 15% share, down 13.56% over November 2021.
