
Canada’s retail industry registered a 3.0% rise in IT hiring activity in April 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 6.43% in April 2022 when compared with March 2022.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 10.89% share in April 2022, recording a decrease of 0.76% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in April 2022
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100.35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in April 2022.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 85.66% in April 2022, registering a 17.65% decline over the previous month.
2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 4.9% share, an increase of 27.27% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 4.55%, registering an 18.75% decline from March 2022.
4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 2.8%, up 6.67% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in April 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 16.06% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during April 2022 over March 2022.
Amazon posted 463 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a drop of 15.66% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 27 jobs and a 3.85% growth. Lululemon Athletica with 19 IT jobs and Empire with 12 jobs, recorded a 40.63% decline and a 20% decrease, respectively, while Metro recorded a decline of 7.69% with 12 job postings during April 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in April 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 47.2%, down by 16.15% from March 2022. Entry Level positions with a 39.69% share, registered a decline of 13.03% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 13.11% share, down 27.18% over March 2022.
