Canada’s retail industry registered a 4.2% rise in IT hiring activity in March 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 10.88% in March 2022 when compared with February 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 10.59% share in March 2022, recording a decrease of 0.25% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in March 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.81% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in March 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 83.91% in March 2022, registering an 8.94% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 5.36% share, an increase of 21.74% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 4.02%, registering a 19.23% decline from February 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 3.26%, up 54.55% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in March 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 10.86% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during March 2022 over February 2022.

Amazon posted 384 IT jobs in March 2022 and registered a drop of 12.33% over the previous month, followed by Lululemon Athletica with 32 jobs and an 88.24% growth. Canadian Tire with 26 IT jobs and Empire with 13 jobs, recorded a 16.13% decline and a 38.1% decrease, respectively, while Metro recorded a decline of 27.78% with 13 job postings during March 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in March 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 45.79%, down by 0.83% from February 2022. Entry Level positions with a 37.93% share, registered a decline of 17.5% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 16.28% share, up 10.39% over February 2022.
