Canada’s retail industry registered a 7.3% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 2.89% in February 2022 when compared with January 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 11.24% share in February 2022, recording an increase of 1.48% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.63% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in February 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 85.77% in February 2022, registering a 4.5% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 4.81% share, a decrease of 16.13% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 4.25%, registering a 76.92% rise from January 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 2.77%, up 114.29% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 16.14% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

Amazon posted 426 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 10.36% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 31 jobs and a 3.13% drop. Empire with 20 IT jobs and Metro with 18 jobs, recorded an 185.71% growth and a 100% growth, respectively, while Lululemon Athletica recorded an increase of 166.67% with 16 job postings during February 2022.

Entry Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Entry Level jobs held a share of 44.36%, up by 17.07% from January 2022. Junior Level positions with a 42.14% share, registered a decline of 0.87% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 13.49% share, flat growth over January 2022.
