China’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 34.2% in August 2022

China’s retail industry registered a 34.2% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 9.94% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.24% share in August 2022, recording a decrease of 2.39% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in China’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of China’s retail industry in August 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 68.49% in August 2022, registering a 36.99% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 13.01% share, an increase of 90% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 10.96%, registering a 23.81% decline from July 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 5.48%, up 300% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in China’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 31.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of China’s retail industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Amazon posted 57 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 9.52% over the previous month, followed by JD with 38 jobs and a 31.03% growth. Alibaba Group Holding with 26 IT jobs and eBay with 16 jobs, recorded a 766.67% growth and a 100% growth, respectively, while Inter IKEA Holding recorded a flat growth with 4 job postings during August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 77.4%, up by 52.7% from July 2022. Entry Level positions with a 14.38% share, registered a decline of 4.55% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 8.22% share, down 33.33% over July 2022.
