Europe witnessed a 1.6% drop in IT hiring activity in the consumer industry in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

May 2022 has seen an increase of 0.4% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 2.76% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering a decrease of 0.02% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 40.55% in May 2022, a 0.48% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 23.78% in May 2022, marking a 14.69% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 17.93% in May 2022, a 10.68% drop from April 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 12.87% in May 2022, an 8.2% rise over the previous month.

Top five consumer companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 12.44% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s consumer industry during May 2022 over previous month.

Fujitsu General posted 51 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a decline of 7.27% over the previous month, followed by The Body Shop International with 35 jobs and a 75% growth. Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 31 IT jobs and Cherkizovo Group with 30 jobs, recorded a 342.86% rise and a 25% rise, respectively, while Nestle recorded a 69.47% decline with 29 job postings during May 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s consumer industry

The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s consumer industry IT hiring activity with a 28.27% share in May 2022, a 36.79% increase over April 2022. Germany featured next with a 15.79% share, down 3.57% over the previous month. Spain recorded a 7.99% share, a drop of 19.61% compared with April 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 76.41%, down by 0.51% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with an 11.89% share, registered a decline of 15.28% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 11.7% share, down 13.04% over April 2022.
