May 2022 has seen a decrease of 2.33% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.09% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering a decrease of 0.15% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 70.55% in May 2022, a 3.81% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 11.65% in May 2022, marking a 3.57% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 7.66% in May 2022, a 6.58% drop from April 2022.

Top five retail companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 26.3% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s retail industry during May 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 408 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered an increase of 16.57% over the previous month, followed by Farfetch with 71 jobs and a 491.67% growth. Zalando with 53 IT jobs and Inter IKEA Holding with 44 jobs, recorded a 39.47% rise and a 21.43% drop, respectively, while Ocado Group recorded a 26.09% increase with 29 job postings during May 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s retail industry

The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 28.59% share in May 2022, a 3.11% increase over April 2022. Germany featured next with a 19.96% share, up 8.19% over the previous month. Spain recorded a 7.44% share, a growth of 43.75% compared with April 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.69%, up by 8.03% from April 2022. Mid Level positions with a 15.43% share, registered a decline of 5.92% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 14.35% share, down 10.74% over April 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.54%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
