October 2021 has seen a decrease of 3.97% in the overall hiring activity when compared with September 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 4.54% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in October 2021, registering a decrease of 0.3% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in October 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Europe with a share of 67.33% in October 2021, a 30.96% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 12.77% in October 2021, marking a 31.75% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 12.08% in October 2021, a 9.91% rise from September 2021.

Top five retail companies in Europe’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 34.4% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Europe’s retail industry during October 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 294 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a decline of 46.93% over the previous month, followed by Inter IKEA Holding with 108 jobs and a 10% drop. Zalando with 70 IT jobs and H & M Hennes & Mauritz with 59 jobs, recorded a 25.53% drop and a 20.41% rise, respectively, while adidas recorded a 25.86% decline with 43 job postings during October 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Europe’s retail industry
The UK commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 29.6% share in October 2021, a 23.53% decrease over September 2021. Germany featured next with a 20.89% share, down 26.22% over the previous month. Sweden recorded a 9.7% share, a drop of 13.27% compared with September 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.7%, down by 25.27% from September 2021. Mid Level positions with a 17.03% share, registered a decline of 34.85% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.67% share, down 26.86% over September 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.59%, recording a month-on-month growth of 50%.
