India’s retail industry registered a 3.5% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 1.4% in September 2021 when compared with August 2021.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 27.12% share in September 2021, recording a decrease of 4.01% over the last three-month average share.

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.33% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry in September 2021.

Top five retail companies in India’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 30.04% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Amazon posted 311 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a drop of 7.44% over the previous month, followed by Avenue Supermarts with 38 jobs and a 35.71% growth. Walmart with 18 IT jobs and NIKE with 15 jobs, recorded a 90.63% decline and a 50% flat growth, respectively, while Woolworths Group recorded a flat growth with 14 job postings during September 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.6%, down by 30.3% from August 2021. Entry Level positions with a 29.75% share, registered a decline of 15.29% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 13.42% share, down 37.5% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.22%, recording a month-on-month decline of 50%.
