India’s retail industry registered a 9.8% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 12.07% in October 2021 when compared with September 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 30.27% share in October 2021, recording a decrease of 0.37% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in India’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry in October 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 76.09% in October 2021, registering a 35.85% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 10.39% share, a decrease of 12.24% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 6.52%, registering a 34.15% decline from September 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 5.31%, up 29.41% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in India’s IT recruitment activity in October 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 34.84% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of India’s retail industry during October 2021 over September 2021.

Amazon posted 268 IT jobs in October 2021 and registered a drop of 44.86% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 31 jobs and a 72.22% growth. Avenue Supermarts with 26 IT jobs and LightInTheBox Holding with 19 jobs, recorded a 31.58% decline and a flat growth, respectively, while Target recorded an increase of 41.67% with 17 job postings during October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 56.28%, down by 27.19% from September 2021. Entry Level positions with a 24.4% share, registered a decline of 44.81% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 19.32% share, down 22.33% over September 2021.
