The global consumer industry noticed a 9.0% drop in IT hiring activity in June 2022 over the previous month, led by The J. R. Simplot’s 4.52% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The consumer industry’s overall hiring activity declined 23.47% when compared with May 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.61% share of the global consumer industry’s hiring activity in June 2022, up 0.04% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of June 2022 were 7.43% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 17.34% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 38.23% emerged as the top IT occupation in the consumer hiring activity in June 2022, a 20.55% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 20.18% in June 2022, down 28.12% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 20.18% share in June 2022, a decline of 17.87% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.06% share in June 2022 and a drop of 18.93% over May 2022.
Top five consumer companies by recruitment activity in June 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 11.09% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global consumer industry during June 2022 over May 2022.
The J. R. Simplot posted 102 IT jobs in June 2022 and registered a rise of 72.88% over the previous month, followed by Haier Group with 102 jobs and an 8.11% decline. PepsiCo with 84 IT jobs and Fujitsu General with 78 jobs, recorded a 22.94% decline and a 17.89% drop, respectively, while Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. recorded a 38.52% drop with 75 job postings during June 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in consumer industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global consumer IT hiring activity in June 2022 with a 49.14% share, which marked a 16.88% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 27.54%, registering a 23.99% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.51% share and a 21.99% drop over May 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.02% and a month-on-month drop of 40.35%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.8%, registering a 30.77% decrease over the previous month.
