July 2022 has seen a decrease of 6.14% in the overall hiring activity when compared with June 2022.
IT jobs accounted for a 14.4% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in July 2022, registering a decrease of 0.1% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in July 2022
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 58.56% in July 2022, an 18.75% drop over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in next, claiming a share of 20.72% in July 2022, marking a 64.29% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 10.81% in July 2022, a 33.33% rise from June 2022.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 7.34% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during July 2022 over previous month.
Amazon posted 56 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a decline of 13.85% over the previous month, followed by Shoprite Holdings with 15 jobs and a 150% growth. Foschini Group with 13 IT jobs and Dis-Chem Pharmacies with 9 jobs, recorded a 13.33% drop and a 200% rise, respectively, while Inter IKEA Holding recorded a 60% decline with 8 job postings during July 2022.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry
South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 55.86% share in July 2022, a 21.57% increase over June 2022. Israel featured next with a 27.03% share, up 50% over the previous month. Niger recorded a 7.21% share, a drop of 60% compared with June 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.56%, down by 8.45% from June 2022. Entry Level positions with a 24.32% share, registered a growth of 58.82% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 17.12% share, down 38.71% over June 2022.
