Middle East & Africa witnessed a 4.2% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

February 2022 has seen an increase of 6.86% in the overall hiring activity when compared with January 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 16.79% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in February 2022, registering a decrease of 0.15% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in February 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 76.92% in February 2022, a 29.03% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 9.79% in February 2022, marking a flat month-on-month increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 6.29% in February 2022, a 12.5% rise from January 2022.

Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 3.5% in February 2022, a 400% rise over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 21.39% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during February 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 95 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a decline of 33.1% over the previous month, followed by Shoprite Holdings with 17 jobs and an 112.5% growth. Inter IKEA Holding with 12 IT jobs and The Foschini Group with 7 jobs, recorded a 14.29% drop and a 75% rise, respectively, while Mr. Price Group recorded a flat growth with 5 job postings during February 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry

South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 39.16% share in February 2022, a 42.27% decrease over January 2022. Israel featured next with a 17.48% share, down 32.43% over the previous month. United Arab Emirates recorded a 17.48% share, a growth of 127.27% compared with January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 63.64%, down by 24.17% from January 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.68% share, registered a decline of 26.19% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 14.69% share, up 10.53% over January 2022.
