Middle East & Africa’s retail industry IT hiring activity rises 2.1% in November 2021

Middle East & Africa witnessed a 2.1% rise in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

November 2021 has seen a decrease of 0.03% in the overall hiring activity when compared with October 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 13.94% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in November 2021, registering a decrease of 0.72% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in November 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 64.13% in November 2021, a 3.28% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 16.3% in November 2021, marking a 6.25% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 7.61% in November 2021, a 600% rise from October 2021.

Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 7.61% in November 2021, a 50% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Middle East & Africa’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 6.82% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during November 2021 over previous month.

Amazon posted 30 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a decline of 43.4% over the previous month, followed by The Foschini Group with 17 jobs and an 183.33% growth. Inter IKEA Holding with 16 IT jobs and Shoprite Holdings with 11 jobs, recorded a 45.45% rise and a 21.43% drop, respectively, while Mr. Price Group recorded a 100% increase with 8 job postings during November 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry

South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 58.7% share in November 2021, a 35% increase over October 2021. Niger featured next with a 16.3% share, up 66.67% over the previous month. Israel recorded a 14.13% share, a drop of 58.06% compared with October 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.3%, down by 6.15% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 27.17% share, registered a growth of 8.7% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 6.52% share, down 33.33% over October 2021.
