North America witnessed a 1.3% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

May 2022 has seen a decrease of 5.76% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.55% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering an increase of 0.06% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in May 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 83.45% in May 2022, a 4.49% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 5.54% in May 2022, marking a 3.23% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 4.59% in May 2022, a 7.17% rise from April 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 2.65% in May 2022, a 21.05% rise over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 4.68% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s retail industry during May 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 3,038 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a decline of 2.97% over the previous month, followed by Dollar Tree with 285 jobs and a 7025% growth. Walmart with 285 IT jobs and The Home Depot with 241 jobs, recorded a 38.31% drop and a 2310% rise, respectively, while Chewy recorded a 28.51% decline with 158 job postings during May 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s retail industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 92.12% share in May 2022, a 1.24% decrease over April 2022. Canada featured next with a 7.51% share, down 9.7% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.31% share, a drop of 5.88% compared with April 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 50.45%, down by 2.42% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 30.48% share, registered a growth of 5.24% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 18.91% share, down 11.11% over April 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.15%, recording a month-on-month growth of 100%.
