IT jobs accounted for a 4.69% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering an increase of 0.43% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 79.25% in December 2021, a 21.12% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 6.72% in December 2021, marking a 12.62% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 6.61% in December 2021, a 0.28% drop from November 2021.
Computer Support Specialists registered a share of 3.66% in December 2021, a 23.74% decline over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 20.09% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s retail industry during December 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 3,293 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a decline of 23.24% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 268 jobs and a 23.21% drop. CVS Health with 208 IT jobs and Chewy with 158 jobs, recorded a 2.35% drop and a 17.28% drop, respectively, while eBay recorded a 334.48% increase with 126 job postings during December 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s retail industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 93.17% share in December 2021, an 18.91% decrease over November 2021. Canada featured next with a 6.33% share, down 28.48% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.47% share, a drop of 34.21% compared with November 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 49.79%, down by 14.18% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 28.81% share, registered a decline of 29.85% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 20.73% share, down 14.87% over November 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.67%, recording a month-on-month decline of 36.84%.
