South Africa’s retail industry registered a 3.2% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 2.71% in August 2022 when compared with July 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 18.24% share in August 2022, recording an increase of 1.86% over the last three-month average share.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 26.23% share, a decrease of 23.81% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 14.75%, registering an 800% rise from July 2022.

Top five retail companies in South Africa’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 1.69% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of South Africa’s retail industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Amazon posted 26 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 30% over the previous month, followed by Foschini Group with 16 jobs and a 23.08% growth. Shoprite Holdings with 8 IT jobs and Dis-Chem Pharmacies with 5 jobs, recorded a 46.67% decline and a 44.44% decrease, respectively, while Pick n Pay Stores recorded an increase of 50% with 3 job postings during August 2022.

Entry Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Entry Level jobs held a share of 42.62%, up by 23.81% from July 2022. Junior Level positions with a 39.34% share, registered a decline of 25% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 18.03% share, up 10% over July 2022.
