South & Central America’s retail industry IT hiring activity drops 1.0% in August 2022

South & Central America witnessed a 1.0% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in August 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

August 2022 has seen a decrease of 4.67% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 7.65% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2022, registering an increase of 0.32% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 82.05% in August 2022, a 28% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 7.69% in August 2022, marking a 66.67% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 5.13% in August 2022, a 20% drop from July 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 5.13% in August 2022, a 50% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 2.7% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s retail industry during August 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 32 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a decline of 55.56% over the previous month, followed by CCC with 31 jobs and a flat growth. Lojas Americanas with 3 IT jobs and Northern Tool + Equipment with 3 jobs, recorded a 200% rise and a 200% rise, respectively, while Allbirds recorded a flat growth with 3 job postings during August 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s retail industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 47.44% share in August 2022, a 17.78% decrease over July 2022. Colombia featured next with a 41.03% share, up 52.38% over the previous month. Argentina recorded a 7.69% share, a growth of 20% compared with July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 75.64%, up by 15.69% from July 2022. Entry Level positions with a 12.82% share, registered a growth of 66.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 11.54% share, down 64% over July 2022.
