South & Central America witnessed a 2.0% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

December 2021 has seen a decrease of 29.67% in the overall hiring activity when compared with November 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 10.17% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in December 2021, registering an increase of 2.29% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in December 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 69.29% in December 2021, a 19.75% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 18.57% in December 2021, marking an 116.67% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 5% in December 2021, a 12.5% drop from November 2021.

Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 5% in December 2021, a 46.15% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 22.12% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s retail industry during December 2021 over previous month.

Lojas Americanas posted 57 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered an increase of 418.18% over the previous month, followed by Amazon with 54 jobs and a 15.63% drop. Magazine Luiza with 19 IT jobs and SMU with 4 jobs, recorded a 24% drop and a 33.33% drop, respectively, while adidas recorded a 42.86% decline with 4 job postings during December 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s retail industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 77.14% share in December 2021, a 38.46% increase over November 2021. Colombia featured next with a 5.71% share, down 20% over the previous month. Argentina recorded a 5% share, a growth of 75% compared with November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 58.57%, up by 24.24% from November 2021. Entry Level positions with a 22.14% share, registered a growth of 106.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 19.29% share, down 25% over November 2021.
