South & Central America’s retail industry IT hiring activity rises 2.6% in September 2021

South & Central America witnessed a 2.6% rise in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2021 has seen an increase of 3.28% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 5.74% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering a decrease of 0.58% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in South & Central America with a share of 72.07% in September 2021, a 53.85% rise over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 9.01% in September 2021, marking a 41.18% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer Support Specialists with a share of 8.11% in September 2021, a 12.5% rise from August 2021.

Database and Network Administrators and Architects registered a share of 6.31% in September 2021, a 30% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in South & Central America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 22.73% in the overall IT recruitment activity of South & Central America’s retail industry during September 2021 over previous month.

Amazon posted 44 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered an increase of 29.41% over the previous month, followed by Magazine Luiza with 37 jobs and a 60.87% growth. Americanas with 13 IT jobs and adidas with 8 jobs, recorded a 48% drop and a flat growth, respectively, while SMU recorded a flat growth with 6 job postings during September 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in South & Central America’s retail industry

Brazil commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 74.77% share in September 2021, a 22.06% increase over August 2021. Chile featured next with a 9.91% share, up 37.5% over the previous month. Colombia recorded a 7.21% share, a flat growth compared with August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.86%, up by 22.03% from August 2021. Mid Level positions with a 21.62% share, registered a growth of 100% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.51% share, down 25% over August 2021.
