The UK’s retail industry registered a 0.4% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 2.73% in July 2022 when compared with June 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.5% share in July 2022, recording an increase of 0.13% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.98% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in July 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 54.08% in July 2022, registering a 6.61% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 23.21% share, an increase of 106.82% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 10.71%, registering a 5% rise from June 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 7.65%, up 30.43% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 10.13% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Amazon posted 141 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 9.62% over the previous month, followed by Ocado Group with 55 jobs and a 175% growth. John Lewis Partnership with 32 IT jobs and Marks and Spencer Group with 17 jobs, recorded a 36% decline and an 112.5% growth, respectively, while Watches Of Switzerland Group recorded an increase of 433.33% with 16 job postings during July 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.39%, up by 10.57% from June 2022. Mid Level positions with a 16.58% share, registered an increase of 18.18% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.78% share, up 12.5% over June 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.26%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
