The UK’s retail industry registered a 10.7% drop in IT hiring activity in December 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 22.56% in December 2021 when compared with November 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.84% share in December 2021, recording an increase of 0.38% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.93% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in December 2021.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 59.79% in December 2021, registering a 32.53% decline over the previous month.
2) Computer Support Specialists claimed a 12.1% share, an increase of 61.9% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 12.1%, registering an 8.11% decline from November 2021.
4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 11.74%, down 32.65% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 4.57% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during December 2021 over November 2021.
Amazon posted 130 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a drop of 16.67% over the previous month, followed by Wm Morrison Supermarkets with 30 jobs and a 500% growth. John Lewis Partnership with 17 IT jobs and Moonpig with 16 jobs, recorded a 21.43% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while LightInTheBox Holding recorded a decline of 40.91% with 13 job postings during December 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in December 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 76.51%, down by 11.52% from November 2021. Mid Level positions with a 13.17% share, registered a decline of 45.59% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 10.32% share, down 53.97% over November 2021.
