The UK’s retail industry registered a 19.7% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 14.13% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.48% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 0.64% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.31% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in October 2022.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 52.08% in October 2022, registering a 21.88% decline over the previous month.
2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 15.97% share, a decrease of 32.35% over the previous month.
3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 14.58%, registering a 20% rise from September 2022.
4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 10.76%, up 40.91% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 7.98% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during October 2022 over September 2022.
Amazon posted 62 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 39.22% over the previous month, followed by Howden Joinery Group with 29 jobs and a 45% growth. ASOS with 20 IT jobs and John Lewis Partnership with 20 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 13.04% decrease, respectively, while Cazoo Group recorded an increase of 5.56% with 19 job postings during October 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.44%, down by 14.16% from September 2022. Entry Level positions with a 15.63% share, registered a decline of 21.05% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 14.58% share, down 10.64% over September 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.35%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
