The UK’s retail industry registered a 5.3% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 1.63% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.34% share in November 2021, recording a decrease of 0.36% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.65% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in November 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 62.98% in November 2021, registering a 24.79% decline over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 14.88% share, an increase of 4.88% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 10.73%, registering a 31.11% decline from October 2021.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 6.23%, down 25% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 26.92% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

Amazon posted 76 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a drop of 50.65% over the previous month, followed by ASOS with 25 jobs and a flat growth. LightInTheBox Holding with 22 IT jobs and Marks and Spencer Group with 15 jobs, recorded a 57.14% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Asda Stores recorded a flat growth with 14 job postings during November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.71%, down by 27.52% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 19.38% share, registered a decline of 1.75% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 15.92% share, down 13.21% over October 2021.
