The UK’s retail industry registered a 5.6% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 9.6% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.6% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 0.72% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in September 2022.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 56.19% in September 2022, registering a 15.84% decline over the previous month.
2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 19.94% share, an increase of 4.76% over the previous month.
3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 11.48%, registering a 15.15% rise from August 2022.
4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 6.04%, down 9.09% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 17.13% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
Amazon posted 99 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 24.43% over the previous month, followed by John Lewis Partnership with 23 jobs and a 27.78% growth. Howden Joinery Group with 20 IT jobs and Ocado Group with 19 jobs, recorded a 35.48% decline and an 11.76% growth, respectively, while Cazoo Group recorded a decline of 5.26% with 18 job postings during September 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.49%, down by 2.95% from August 2022. Entry Level positions with a 17.52% share, registered a decline of 29.27% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Mid Level job ads with a 12.99% share, down 23.21% over August 2022.
