
The UK’s retail industry registered an 8.1% rise in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 1.01% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.1% share in January 2022, recording an increase of 0.47% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.96% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in January 2022.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 70.39% in January 2022, registering a 54.86% growth over the previous month.
2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 10.91% share, an increase of 20% over the previous month.
3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 8.83%, registering a 3.03% rise from December 2022.
4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 4.94%, down 44.12% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 21.35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during January 2022 over December 2022.
Amazon posted 142 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a rise of 5.19% over the previous month, followed by ASOS with 21 jobs and an 110% growth. John Lewis Partnership with 20 IT jobs and Marks and Spencer Group with 18 jobs, recorded a 17.65% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Moonpig Group recorded a decline of 6.25% with 15 job postings during January 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 68.83%, up by 21.56% from December 2022. Mid Level positions with a 17.66% share, registered an increase of 61.9% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 12.99% share, up 72.41% over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.52%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
