The UK’s retail industry registered an 8.3% rise in IT hiring activity in February 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 6.18% in February 2022 when compared with January 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.5% share in February 2022, recording an increase of 0.7% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.29% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in February 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 69.75% in February 2022, registering an 18.85% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 10.16% share, an increase of 2.27% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 9.71%, registering a 26.47% rise from January 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 4.51%, up 5.26% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in February 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 55.74% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during February 2022 over January 2022.

Amazon posted 216 IT jobs in February 2022 and registered a rise of 46.94% over the previous month, followed by Internet Fusion with 21 jobs and a 600% growth. John Lewis Partnership with 19 IT jobs and LightInTheBox Holding with 15 jobs, recorded a 5% decline and a 66.67% growth, respectively, while Etsy recorded an increase of 250% with 14 job postings during February 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in February 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.79%, up by 10.38% from January 2022. Mid Level positions with a 17.61% share, registered an increase of 16.42% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 16.93% share, up 59.57% over January 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.68%, recording a month-on-month increase of 50%.
