The US’s retail industry registered a 22.5% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 7.26% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.33% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 0.93% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.98% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s retail industry in October 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 70.61% in October 2022, registering a 20.67% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 9.25% share, a decrease of 4.32% over the previous month.

3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 8.42%, registering a 37.79% decline from September 2022.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 5.84%, down 6.15% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 16.99% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s retail industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Amazon posted 1,293 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 12.34% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 327 jobs and a 4.81% growth. CVS Health with 151 IT jobs and Dollar Tree with 96 jobs, recorded a 12.72% decline and a 57.52% decrease, respectively, while Chewy recorded a decline of 50.32% with 78 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.62%, down by 19.91% from September 2022. Entry Level positions with a 24.77% share, registered a decline of 20.09% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 23.37% share, down 18.05% over September 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.24%, recording a month-on-month increase of 250%.
