The US’s retail industry registered a 2.2% rise in IT hiring activity in January 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.94% in January 2022 when compared with December 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 4.72% share in January 2022, recording an increase of 0.3% over the last three-month average share.

 

Top five job classifications in the US’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s retail industry in January 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 81.93% in January 2022, registering a 25.76% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 6.7% share, an increase of 20.66% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 5.25%, registering a 3.11% decline from December 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 2.62%, down 13.2% over the previous month.

 

Top five retail companies in the US’s IT recruitment activity in January 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 31.84% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US’s retail industry during January 2022 over December 2022.

Amazon posted 4,533 IT jobs in January 2022 and registered a rise of 34.11% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 348 jobs and a 30.83% growth. CVS Health with 211 IT jobs and Chewy with 182 jobs, recorded a 1.44% growth and a 15.19% growth, respectively, while Lowe’s Companies recorded an increase of 54.41% with 105 job postings during January 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in January 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 47.38%, up by 16.08% from December 2022. Entry Level positions with a 29.78% share, registered an increase of 26.1% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 22.06% share, up 28.52% over December 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.78%, recording a month-on-month increase of 34.21%.
