German discount supermarket chain Aldi is set to open 16 new stores across the UK over the coming months, as the company continues to build out its presence in the country.

Operating more than 1,080 outlets across the country, the chain said the upcoming openings will include sites in London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, as well as several other locations.

Aldi UK national real estate managing director Jonathan Neale said: “At Aldi, we are committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK.”

The new stores form part of Aldi’s long-term target of growing its UK network to 1,500 locations.

That ambition is backed by a £1.6bn ($2.17bn) two-year investment strategy announced last year, under which the retailer is pursuing a sustained programme of store development across the country.

For 2026 specifically, Aldi has set aside £370m to fund new store openings, with around 40 additional outlets targeted for the year.

In January, the company outlined plans to direct that funding towards broadening its supermarket network across the UK.

Separately, in April, Aldi announced plans to invest £40m in eight new London stores during the year as part of its efforts to widen its footprint in the capital.

Alongside the store expansion, Aldi said it has increased pay for store colleagues following a £42m investment in employee wages for 2026.

Store Assistant pay now starts at £13.50 per hour nationally, with rates rising to £14.47 depending on length of service.

For those working within the M25 motorway, the starting rate is £14.88 per hour, increasing to £15.20 based on service length.
