US-based E-commerce company Amazon is planning to expand in the state of Utah with a fulfilment centre in West Jordan, creating more than 800 jobs.

The online retailer currently employs more than 2,000 full-time associates across the state.

“Utah has a talented workforce, and we are very excited to grow employment beyond the more than 2,000 associates already serving customers in the state.”

Amazon global customer fulfilment vice president Alicia Boler Davis said: “We’re excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfilment centre in West Jordan and to continue innovating in a state committed to providing great opportunities for jobs and customer experience.

“Utah has a talented workforce, and we are very excited to grow employment beyond the more than 2,000 associates already serving customers in the state.”

Associates at the new one million-square-foot centre are expected to pick, pack and ship large customer items, such as sports equipment, patio furniture, fishing rods, pet food, kayaks, bicycles, and larger household goods.

The company will provide Career Choice programme for its employees and will fund adult education by pre-paying 95% of tuition and associated fees for various courses.

Amazon has selected US-based Seefried Industrial Properties to develop the project.

The retailer fulfilment network supports hundreds of thousands of businesses globally and local organisations through Fulfillment By Amazon service.

Last month, Amazon.com announced plans to open two new fulfilment centres in Ohio, which are expected to create more than 2,500 permanent jobs.

The retailer selected Akron Rossford locations in Ohio to establish the two facilities.
