UK-based supermarket chain Asda has opened its largest On the Move store on EG Group’s London Road forecourt in Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Opened on 18 March, the 5,000ft² store offers more than 2,500 Asda own-brand and branded items, including Extra Special, fresh and chilled products, as well as EG-licensed foodservice brands LEON and KFC.

Customers will also have access to Asda’s full online product range for Click & Collect, as well as make collections and returns on parcels from more than 100 brands and George.com in-store.

As part of EG Group’s commitment to deploying modern charging facilities, the Retford site will feature two electric vehicle charging points.

The opening strengthens the partnership between Asda and independent convenience retailer EG Group, taking the total number of Asda On the Move stores to 32.

Next month, EG Group-owned bakery chain Cooplands will open a café inside the Asda On the Move store.

EG Group retail integration head Barry Westley said: “We are excited to partner with Asda on the opening of the most ambitious Asda On the Move store to date.

“The complementary strengths of both EG Group and Asda enable us to make it even more convenient for motorists to access everything they need when they fill up with fuel.”

Last month, Asda revealed plans to pilot an automated age verification solution at self-checkouts at some of its stores.
