The brand made the announcement after opening the first of the five outlets at the Mapleview Centre in Burlington, Ontario.
The 4,260ft² Burlington store is Athleta’s third company-operated location in Canada.
The brand expanded into Canada last August with the launch of its e-commerce services in the country.
Following this, it opened stores at Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver and Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
Athleta stores provide performance lifestyle products for women and girls in more than 200 sizes, ranging from XXS to 2X.
They also offer in-store styling appointments, free alterations and wellness-focused community events.
Athleta’s next four Canadian stores will be located at the Chinook Centre in Calgary, Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke, West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, and Robson Street in Vancouver.
Athleta Canada vice-president and general manager Jenelle Sheridan said: “Since our launch last year, Canadian customers have quickly gravitated toward our offerings.
“We have highly differentiated performance lifestyle product unlike anything else in this market.
“As a certified B Corporation, we are filling a need in the market for a sustainable, purpose-driven brand, and we can see how that connects back to our Canadian customer’s focus on health, wellness and active living.
“Athleta’s Canadian business is a key contributor to long-term growth, and we believe our store fleet growth strategy will get us there as we see Canadians return to in-store shopping.”
Founded in 1998, Athleta is a performance lifestyle brand that aims to empower ‘a community of active women and girls’.
The brand is owned and operated by US-based apparel giant Gap.
In September last year, it expanded its wholesale partnership with speciality outdoor retailer REI Co-op.
