American retailer CVS Health is planning to expand its HealthHUB concept by opening 1,500 locations by the end of 2021.

The company announced this move as part of a series of transformation initiatives outlined at its 2019 Investor Day.

CVS introduced three HealthHUBs locations at its stores in Houston, Texas, as part of a pilot programme in February this year.

HealthHUB offers a range of health care services, new product categories, digital tools and on-demand health kiosks, trusted advice and personalised care. It covers a 20% of the total space of a CVS retail store.

“Our goal is to fundamentally transform the consumer health experience for the millions of Americans.”

The company plans to open new locations in Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey and Tampa this year.

CVS Health president and CEO Larry J. Merlo said: “Our goal is to fundamentally transform the consumer health experience for the millions of Americans we interact with every day, while creating value for our patients, members, partners, and shareholders.

“We have combined with Aetna to build a powerful and unique business model that will guide our journey to becoming the most consumer-centric health company.”

The company has also announced plans to position itself for long-term growth and increased shareholder value.

CVS Pharmacy agreed, in January this year, to acquire 20 retail pharmacies from US-based Ritzman Pharmacies for an undisclosed amount.

Under the deal, Ritzman Pharmacy will close stores in locations that include Rittman, Sugarcreek, Wooster Milltown, Medina River Styx, Wadsworth, Norton, Seville, Ashland, Orrville, Medina, and Jackson.
