German supermarket chain Lidl is reportedly planning to open a new store on 13 February in Essex, UK.
The 1,212m² store will be located on Christopher Martin Road in Mayflower Retail Park, Basildon.
The new location will feature an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing, along with other amenities such as baby changing and parking spaces.
The store is being built by construction firm Adston and has generated up to 40 new jobs. It is in line with the company’s strategy to continue its expansion and regeneration.
During the first week of the opening, the store will be offering exclusive deals, including some products to win for the guests.
Lidl GB Property regional head Andrew Hodgkinson was quoted by EssexLive as saying: “It is great for us to be able to create more jobs and investment opportunities in the area, and we can’t wait to start serving our multi-award winning products to the local community.”
In July last year, Lidl announced plans to open 12 new stores in Scotland over the next three years. The retailer currently operates 98 stores in the country.
Lidl US also revealed plans to expand its operation by opening 25 new stores by spring this year.
Lidl GB opened its first store in 1994. The company operates 760 stores and 13 regional distribution centres across the UK, employing over 22,000 people.
