The move expands an existing partnership between Steve Madden and Reliance Brands Limited (RBL), which dates back to 2011. The companies entered an exclusive licensing agreement to bring the American brand into India, structured to run for 20 years.

Steve Madden international president Ian Funk said: “We are excited to partner with Reliance to bring a brand inspired by the energy of New York City to a new generation of consumers.

“This launch marks an important milestone in our continued international growth, and we look forward to building the brand together.”

According to a company release, Madden NYC said: “The launch builds on Steve Madden’s growing retail footprint in India with 35 current exclusive stores across 16 cities, bringing the brand’s trend-driven aesthetic to more consumers than ever.”

Steve Madden commented that this represents the initial stage of Madden NYC’s entry into India, with further product lines, launches and consumer events scheduled later in the year.

RBL head Sumeet Yadav said: “The Indian fashion consumer is increasingly looking for brands that combine global relevance with accessible style.

“Madden NYC fills an exciting whitespace in the market with its fashion-forward aesthetic, strong value proposition and broad appeal. We are confident the brand will resonate with a new generation of consumers and establish a strong presence across both digital and physical retail in India.”

RBL currently runs over 1,855 retail points across the country, spanning standalone outlets and shop-in-shop formats.

The India launch comes as parent Steve Madden reported revenue of $665.9m for the second quarter of 2026, up 19.1%.

Income from operations stood at $39.3m, or 5.9% of revenue, against a loss of $40.3m, or 7.2% of revenue, a year earlier, while net income attributable to the company came in at $27.7m, compared with a net loss of $39.5m in the same quarter of 2025.
