Romania-based supermarket chain Zanfir has been acquired by Mega Image, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize.

Mega Image has received approval from the Romanian Competition Council for the transaction, which is expected to strengthen its presence in the Vrancea region.

According to the Ahold Delhaize website, the supermarket chain has remodelled some of its stores by adding specialist wine department, Wine Gallery, and the Equilibrium Health & Wellness section to offer food and non-food products, including organic and vegan items.

Last February, Mega Image opened a new concept store at Cobalcescu 45 in Bucharest to offer a range of grocery items and gourmet cuisine to customers.

The store also features Pane & Pomodoro, a first Neapolitan pizzeria in the country that makes pizzas using ingredients from the Naples and Campania regions.
