US supermarket chain Whole Foods Market has opened its 365 by Whole Foods Market grocery store in Silver Lake of Los Angeles, the US.
This is the first of three stores that Whole Foods Market plans to open this year.
Whole Foods Market will open its second store on 14 July at Lake Oswego, Oregon, while the third outlet will open later this year at Bellevue, Washington.
The firm plans to open about ten stores under this brand next year.
The Los Angeles store is spread across 28,000ft² and offers a wide range of products, including dairy and dairy alternatives, meat, prepared foods, alcohol, bodycare and grocery items. Around 50% of the produce stocked at 365 is non-organic.
365 by Whole Foods Market president Jeff Turnas told Reuters: "Our goal is to compete in the marketplace without lowering the Whole Foods standards."
Catering towards busy and value-conscious consumers, Whole Foods recently signed 20 leases to open 365-branded stores, which are smaller in size than an average Whole Foods outlet, thereby minimising real estate costs.
