Amazon is planning to open a new robotics fulfilment centre in Thornton, Colorado, US.

The new Amazon Robotics facility will be the first of its type in the state and create more than 1,500 new full-time associate roles.

To be spread over an area of more than 855,000ft², the new facility will use Amazon Robotics technologies, vision systems, and other software and mechanical innovations, Amazon stated.

The retailer already operates a fulfilment centre in the region.

“Our talented workforce will have the opportunity to learn new, valuable skills with Amazon and work alongside innovative technology."

The employees at Amazon Robotics facility will pick, pack and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics and toys.
