Amazon is set to open Amazon Go, a physical grocery store that will help customers to avoid cash counters or checkout lines.
This outlet will be equipped with technology that enable customers to shop for products without going through the checkout process, reported independent.co.uk.
This step is aimed at minimising shopping time for customers.
To avail this facility, customers need to download an app and then swipe their smartphones at the entrance. Using computer vision, machine learning and artificial intelligence, all products that customers put into their bags or carts are then tracked by the phone. When an item is put back on shelf, it indicates that the product is deleted from the ordered products.
When customers exit the store, their bill is calculated and mailed to their phones. This amount is deducted from their Amazon account.
The 1,800ft² store is expected to open in 2017 at Seattle, US.
This outlet will sell prepared foods, pre-packaged meal kits and ingredients.
The online retailer intends to open more than 2,000 offline grocery stores, and Amazon Go is one of the concepts being tested, reported The Wall Street Journal.
