Amazon is planning to open a new fulfillment centre in Monee, Illinois, US.

Spread across approximately 850,000ft², the new fulfillment centre will be used to pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and consumer goods.

Amazon North America operations vice-president Akash Chauhan said: “We place our fulfillment centres close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and the growth in Illinois is directly tied to our increasing customer demand.

“Illinois is a great state to do business, and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers.”

The company said that full-time employees will be receiving competitive hourly wages and comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k) and company stock awards, and generous maternity and parental leave benefits.

Will County executive Lawrence Walsh said: “We feel very fortunate that Amazon has decided to build another fulfillment center in Will County, bringing the total facilities here to four."

The company also offers employees innovative programmes such as Career Choice, where it will prepay 95% of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
