US-based online retailer Amazon plans to open a new fulfillment centre in Kansas City, Kansas.

This facility will open within four months and will create more than 1,000 full-time positions.

In addition to the new fulfillment centre in Wyandotte County and the upcoming facility in Edgerton, Amazon has amenities in Lenexa.

Amazon North American operations vice-president Akash Chauhan said: “Together with the addition of the Kansas City and the Edgerton fulfilment centres, there will be 2,000 new Amazon jobs in Kansas and none of this would be have been possible without the support we’ve received from state and community leaders.”

Kansas governor Sam Brownback said: "Strategically located in the middle of the country, Kansas is an ideal home for businesses looking for a skilled workforce and pro-growth environment.

"The state is dedicated to attracting companies and helping them grow and create jobs.”

Spanning more than 855,000ft², the Kansas City fulfillment centre will pick, pack, and ship smaller customer items such as books, electronics and toys.
