Online retailer Amazon is planning to open a new one million square-foot fulfilment centre in Salem, Oregon, US.
Expected to create in excess of 1,000 full-time jobs, the proposed facility is the second fulfilment centre in the state.
In June, the retailer unveiled its plans to open its first Oregon fulfilment centre in the city of Troutdale.
Amazon North America customer fulfilment vice-president Sanjay Shah said: “We are excited to continue growing in Oregon, creating 1,000 full-time jobs in Salem.
“The support of Governor Brown, local leaders, and many others has been instrumental in our decision to locate the new fulfilment centre in the state capital, and we are grateful for the support we’ve received to bring new jobs and investment to Oregon.”
The company’s other operations in Oregon currently include a sortation centre in Hillsboro and a Prime Now hub in Portland.
Associates at the upcoming Salem store are expected to pick, pack and ship items such as sports equipment, gardening tools and pet food.
Earlier this month, the retailer announced that it will open a new 855,000ft² fulfilment centre in North Randall, Ohio, which is expected to provide more than 2,000 full-time associate roles.
