Amazon is planning to open a new 855,000ft² fulfilment centre in Staten Island, New York, US.
The facility is set to become the company’s first fulfilment centre in the state and expected to create more than 2,250 new, full-time jobs.
Employees at the proposed centre are expected to have opportunities to engage with advanced robotics.
Amazon customer fulfilment vice president Sanjay Shah said: “We are excited to bring our first fulfilment centre to New York and work alongside the state’s incredible workforce.”
Once the facility is opened, employees will use robotics to pick, pack and ship items such as household essentials, books and toys to shoppers.
Empire State Development president, CEO and commissioner Howard Zemsky said: “This project will create thousands of jobs for New Yorkers in a rapidly growing industry and proves that our tech economy’s momentum is stronger than ever before.”
