Amazon is set to expand its presence with two new fulfillment centres in Aurora, Illinois, US.

The new centres are expected to create more than 1,000 full-time jobs.

"In just over two years, Illinois has proven itself to be an ideal location."

It already has fulfillment centres in Edwardsville, Joliet and Romeovill, as well as another fulfillment centre is under construction in Monee.

Amazon North American operations vice-president Akash Chauhan said: “In just over two years, Illinois has proven itself to be an ideal location from which Amazon can continue offering customers our vast selection and superfast shipping speeds."

Employees at the one million square-feet centre in Aurora will pick, pack and ship small items such as books, electronics and consumer goods, to customers.
