Meijer, a regional American hypermarket chain, is now offering free Wi-Fi at all its retail stores in the Midwest.

The move by the retailer is aimed at providing customers with instant access to its free mPerks programme, which currently has over two million subscribers through digital coupons.

Availability of Wi-Fi will allow customers to easily access their mPerks accounts, the Meijer mobile app, and review and clip digital coupons.

Meijer customer marketing and emerging technology vice president Michael Ross said their customers are relying on digital tools more than ever as they shop, which is why they are constantly providing them with resources to enhance their shopping experience.

"And, now with free Wi-Fi in our stores, we’re offering an additional cost savings because our customers no longer have to use their data plans while shopping," Ross added.

The Wi-Fi also helps the chain’s nearly 650,000 Meijer mobile app users to easily manage their entire shopping trip, including view and clip digital coupons with the mPerks programme, create and check off items on a shopping list, browse sale items and save to shopping list, earn total purchase savings from personalized, pharmacy and baby reward programmes, receive maps to a nearby Meijer store, and search and find products on a store map.
