eBay has announced it will deliver products purchased on its website in packages carrying its name, a move to raise brand awareness.

Although eBay sold $82bn worth of goods through its site in 2015, sellers had the option to select their packaging and this packaging never carried the eBay name, unlike its rival Amazon’s shipping boxes.

eBay is partnering with a firm in order to begin selling boxes and envelopes that will raise awareness of its brand.

In addition, it intends to send a few of its top sellers free eBay-branded supplies.

Even though this move will not majorly spur the growth of eBay’s business, it will raise awareness.

"eBay is partnering with a firm in order to begin selling boxes and envelopes that will raise awareness of its brand."

However, the new packaging is optional and sellers can pick their own boxes that do not carry eBay’s label.

eBay was quoted by Fortune saying: "Many of our sellers told us that they wanted to purchase eBay branded shipping supplies online and we wanted to provide them with more choices.

"Our sellers also said that cost and convenience were the most important attributes when choosing what and where to purchase."

eBay Shipping Supplies Store, operated by a third-party fulfillment partner, will have the shipping materials.

Initially, the line-up of supplies will comprise 100% recyclable boxes in ten sizes, ‘airjacket’ bubble mailers. Several items will be included later.
